PROGRESS TO DATE
The last six months have seen a continuance of new donations and pledges, although the number declined as compared with previous periods. The Campaign recorded 193 new donors in the six months from mid-December 2009 to mid-June 2010. The total number of donors to the Campaign now stands at 2,290 and the total of donations and pledges has reached almost £2 million.
To date, the Campaign has appealed directly to regular mass attendees through the parishes. In May, the Campaign Office launched a major initiative to reach out to supporters of Catholic education who are not regular mass attendees. With the cooperation of Heads of Schools, the Archbishop sent over 15,000 letters to parents of children enrolled in our 55 Catholic schools asking them to support the Campaign. He noted that most parents choose to send their children to a Catholic school because of its values, which are sustained by the community of the Archdiocese. It is hoped that many parents will reflect on this message and will consider making a donation to the Campaign.
The Campaign Office also distributed to parishes the fourth in the series of posters designed by pupils in our Catholic schools, intended as a reminder to all parishioners that the Campaign is still open.
Remember that the success of the Campaign will be measured by the number of pledges or donations received, not by their value. The goal is for at least 60% of families to participate in the Campaign. As of now, almost 30% of families have contributed to the Campaign and some parishes are over 50%! And donations from outside the Archdiocese will also be most welcome.
If you have among those who have not yet made a donation or pledge to the Campaign, this is a perfect time to do so. Campaign brochures and Pledge Cards are available in the church or from your Parish Campaign Leader or they can be downloaded from the Archdiocesan website which is: www.rcadc.org.
